Dating Your Spouse

Is Your Marriage Lacking Something?

Unfortunately, many married couples settle into a pattern of complacency within their relationship. Perhaps you feel like the “spark” you once had is gone. Maybe it seems like you never laugh together anymore, and instead of feeling “head over heels” in love with your spouse, your marriage has become more like a chore.

I’d like you to think back to the years when you were dating. Can you remember what you felt toward your spouse back then?

  • Butterflies in your stomach at the thought of seeing each other
  • Eagerness to talk on the phone
  • Wanting to do all you could do to please each other
  • Going out of your way to make each other feel special?
  • Counting the days, hours, minutes, etc. until you would see each other again?

Do any of those sound familiar?

Sadly, many marriages end up struggling after a few years because somewhere along the way, we forget to keep on dating each other. Instead of continuing to find ways to demonstrate how much we care and appreciate each other, we dive into raising children, keeping our houses clean, and getting raises at work.

It’s no wonder so many marriages are struggling! Solomon gives us some wonderful instructions in the book of Proverbs regarding marriage. In Proverbs 5:18, he says, “May your fountain be blessed,
and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.” What is one thing you can do this week to rejoice in each other? Maybe it’s time to plan that date you’ve been putting off? Try it! I guarantee it’ll help bring some of that spark back into your marriage.
